Georgia F P.J. Horne (knee) out for season

Georgia senior forward P.J. Horne will miss the 2021-22 season with a knee injury, Bulldogs coach Tom Crean said Wednesday.

Horne, the team’s only returning starter, underwent surgery on his right knee last weekend after getting hurt in practice.

“… He bumped knees in a scrimmage, lost footing and went down awkwardly,” Crean posted on Twitter.

Horne started all 26 games for the Bulldogs in 2020-21 and averaged 8.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 28.4 minutes.

He transferred to Georgia after playing three seasons at Virginia Tech and averaging 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 89 games (35 starts).

“This is such a major blow to us because (Horne) was playing so well and showing great leadership as our leading returning player, but more so because he is such a great person and one of the finest people I’ve ever coached,” Crean wrote. “He cares about his teammates deeply.”

Georgia opens the season at home on Nov. 9 against Florida International.
