Elite Recruit Shaedon Sharpe Commits To Kentucky

Kentucky coach John Calipari

John Calipari once again is bringing an elite recruit to Kentucky.

Shaedon Sharpe, one of the highest ranked players in the Class of 2022, announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Sharpe, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Ariz., is the top-ranked player in his class, according to ESPN and Rivals.com.

“It was a tough decision, but I felt they had a clear plan for me as I work to play at the highest level,” Sharpe told ESPN. “Coach Cal took the time to understand who I was as a person and how to get the best out of me. Kentucky felt the most like home to me. I get the sense that I can grow to reach my potential on and off the court at Kentucky given the platform, atmosphere and legacy.”

Since Calipari arrived at Kentucky for the 2009-10 season, 43 Wildcats have gone on to be NBA draft picks, with 32 of them selected in the first round. Sharpe joins Skyy Clark, a point guard from Florida, as five-star recruits headed to Kentucky in the Class of 2022.

“Coach Cal’s track record of developing NBA players had a major impact on my decision,” Sharpe told ESPN. “I can see that he does a great job of working with athletes of my position and playing style and getting them to be the best versions of themselves. His experience is a large part of why I chose UK, but he believed in the vision and goals that I had for myself as well.”

A native of Canada, Sharpe averaged 22.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in the Nike EYBL circuit this summer. His decision came down to Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, Oklahoma State and the NBA G League, according to multiple media reports.

The Wildcats went 9-16 last season, marking the program’s first losing record since 1988-89.
